May 12, 2026 Meeting Minutes

The Vasa Township Board of Supervisors met on this day at 8:00 p.m. for its regular meeting. Present were Supervisors Carlson, Hyllengren, and Samuelson. Also present were Lindahl, Peterson, Gesme, and Zervas.

The minutes for the April meeting were approved. Claims #9579-9597 were approved for a total of $27,660.18. The payroll distributions were approved. The cash control statement was approved.

The board approved a building permit application from Justin Mandelkow to replace an ag building. The Board also approved modifications to the permit approved for Kaleb Andeerson at the prior meeting.

Charles and Pamela Miller attended the meeting to express concern about speeds on Belle Creek Way, and to request a speed limit sign. The board explained it does not have authority to place speed limits.
Sheriff Deputy Juen visited the meeting. It was reiterated that regardless of the speed limit, drivers are required to drive at speeds reasonable and prudent. Deputy Juen also mentioned complaints about motorcycle traffic on County 7.
It was noted the neighboring property is looking cleaner, following the survey and the followup letter. The property is also on the County’s land use list of properties to review.
Supervisor Hyllengren reported on options and prices for the 325th Street culvert east of the bridge project the County will be working on this year.
The treasurer reported on the new township certificates of deposit. There’s a 6-month CD at First Farmers & Merchants, and three one-year CDs through Edward Jones across different banks. This ensures the amounts at each institution stay below the FDIC insurance limit.
The clerk presented resolutions to appoint election judges for the upcoming elections. Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Carlson, to adopt the resolution appointing judges for the Primary. All aye. Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Carlson, to adopt the resolution appointing judges for the General. All aye.
The board adopted a resolution authorizing the contract with an interested officer, for the township website development by Mike Gesme Web. Motion by Hyllengren, seconded by Carlson. All aye.
The clerk reported on various items. The Board of Appeal was held on April 22nd, with one change approved. All Q1 reports have been filed, including state and federal taxes, and UI and paid leave reports. The final annual SLFRF report is filed. The Goodhue fire agreement is still not finalized. The County reported a tax abatement for parcel 42.026.1400.
The clerk suggested placing signage at the end of the town hall driveway during elections for voters to more easily find the polling place. The road maintenance staff will work on it.
