April 14, 2026 Meeting Minutes

The Vasa Township Board of Supervisors met on this day at 8:00 p.m. for its regular meeting. Present were Supervisors Carlson, Hyllengren, and Samuelson. Also present were Lindahl, Peterson, Gesme, and Zervas.
The minutes for the March meeting were approved. Claims #9555-9575 were approved for a total of $7,945.25. The payroll distributions were approved. The cash control statement was approved.
The board approved an application from Kaleb Anderson for a new enclosed shop.
Sheriff Deputy Markegard visited the meeting. It was noted there has been some hail damaged due to the recent storm.
Crushed rock bids were opened. Bids were received from Bruening Rock Products and Anderson Rock & Lime, with representatives from both companies in attendance. Bruening bid $8.839 per ton delivered and spread, and verbally quoted $7.50 per ton quarry price. Anderson bid $8.50 per ton delivered and spread, and $7.95 per ton quarry price. Motion by Hyllengren, seconded by Carlson, to award the contract to Anderson. All aye.
The board completed its annual reorganization. Re-elected Supervisor Carlson and Clerk Gesme signed their oaths of office and received election certificates. Carlson was appointed Board Chair, nominated by Hyllengren and seconded by Samuelson. Meetings will continue on second Tuesdays at 8pm. The official newspaper will continue to be the Cannon Falls Beacon, and the official bank First Farmers & Merchants, with no changes to signatories.
The Board reviewed the compensation schedule prepared by the clerk. Motion by Hyllengren, seconded by Carlson to raise the hourly wages of the maintenance workers by $2 per hour each. All aye.
Desiree Amacher visited the meeting, concerned about the placement of her LP tank. The township’s recent survey shows it encroaches on township property. Concerned about liability, the board requested she work with her LP company to relocate the rented tank this summer.
The other neighboring property, to the east, was again discussed. The survey shows some of the items, including part of one structure, encroach on the township’s property. The board directed the clerk to send another letter to the property owner requesting cleanup and mentioning the possibility of a fence. The clerk will also follow up with Goodhue County land use about next steps.
The clerk noted the Board of Appeals will be held on April 22nd at 1pm, and that the annual financial report has been filed with the state auditor. The board also agreed for the clerk to request insect treatment for the town hall.
