March 10, 2026 Meeting Minutes

The Vasa Township Board of Supervisors met on this day at 10:00 p.m. for its regular meeting. Present were Supervisors Samuelson and Hyllengren. Absent was Carlson. Also present were Lindahl, Peterson, Gesme, and Zervas.
The minutes for the February meeting were approved. Claims #9539-9554 were approved for a total of $23,813.31. Also approved was a $45.49 reimbursement for Rick Samuelson for rolls and milk for the Annual Meeting, a $30 payment to Richard Callstrom for moderating, and the donations approved at the Annual Meeting: $100 Goodhue County Historical Society; $100 Vasa Museum, $500 Goodhue County Fair, $400 Cannon Valley Fair. The payroll distributions were approved. The cash control statement was approved.
The clerk reported the County opened bids for sealcoating and crack sealing, and the amount for Norelius Road came in at $10,644.00. The Board approved moving forward.
It was decided to advertise rock bids the same as last year. The clerk will publish the call for bids on 7,000 tons or more, spread on township roads, with prices both for delivery and at the quarry. Bids will be opened at the April board meeting.
The treasurer reported on the rate quotes received for new CDs. Merchants offered 3.3%, First Farmers & Merchants 3.45%, and Edward Jones 3.75%. It was agreed Edward Jones was preferred, but to keep in mind FDIC insures only $250,000 per institution. The amount to be invested was discussed. The possibility of constructing a new town garage was introduced. It was decided for now to reinvest the amount of the maturing CD, plus an additional $100,000 from checking.
The neighboring property was discussed. There are a number of vehicles and other items which may be encroaching on the property line. Supervisor Samuelson was directed to get a full survey done of the town hall property.
The clerk noted the Board of Appeals will be held on April 22nd at 1pm.
